its been a while, but I thought I'd post pics of my American Idol.
Gill Jr. died a while back, so Ive been fattening this guy up in my sump for almost a year.
BTW, great job Brent and company for keeping this club going!

Ray. Sorry to hear about gill jr. I need to get more fish myself. How hard are the moorish idols to take care of?

Moorish idols are one of the most difficult fish to keep. They are typically very finicky feeders and their natural diet usually consists of a large amount of sponges. Even the most mature of tanks would not be able to provide enough sponges. People usually ween them onto frozen foods. I used to ween them onto frozen clams when I worked at an lfs. Even after being weened they can be difficult to keep healthy. So it's impressive that rayray had one for so long.

Awww... well I guess thats a no go for me. Have s good amount of sponges but no where enough. I need more fishto create more coral food ;-) yesterday I saw some zoas I gave my buddy. They werr HUGE! But than again he can't grow sps lol. I feed my fish at least 3x a day when I'm there. Or 1 heavy feeding if I'm busy. The one thing that's stumping me is I have hair algae in my frag tank and nothing I can see in my display. I'm thinking of hooking up a small algae turf scrubber to my frag tank to see if that helps. And than I can feed even more!!! HAHA

Yep MIs are challenging. There is commercial frozen sponge cubes made for angels that my American Idol devours. But the biggest challenge for me is introducing them into a tank that already has aggresive tangs with scalpels- MIs are completely defenseless. But my MI is totally worth it!
