So we just completed the DIY 36 LED dimmable build from Aquastyleonline.com, and we are loving the new lighting! It took a few days worth of wiring, soldering, and building a lid to our canopy to hold the U channel heatsinks, but it was totally worth it. Do we have a sign up sheet for the club PAR meter? I would love to use it to set the max PAR level in the tank so I don't accidentally burn out some corals. Right now the dimmers are set to 25%, but finding a final percentage would be great.

Since I've gotten a few questions about the LED fixture, I thought I would post a few pics. Custom Lid with 1.5" U-channel heat sinks with black wire for white LED's, and blue wire for blue LED's. Nic's wiring diagram made all the solder points line up perfectly, her planning made this nice and clean. The heatsinks are floated off of the wood using stainless steel sleeves that just fit over the bolts we used. Dimmable controls installed into the front of the canopy. U-channel heatsink for the LED drivers tucked out of view. White and Blue on lowest setting. White 100% Blue 100% White and Blue 100% We tend to leave the LED's on at about 85% Blue and 80% White, at 100% it's a little too bright. Feel free to ask anything else about the LED's or the build itself.

The LED's took about a day's worth of planning, heatsink cementing, and soldering.
The "heatsink" is just a piece of 9' aluminum U-channel stock bought from Burbank Metal Supply Co. It cost $12 and should be able to be found at any metal supply store. Definitely cheaper than a $100 heatsink from a specialty store.

Just finished taking PAR readings... we've got 400-500 in the SPS gardens at the top, 200-225 at the sand level. YAYS AQUASTYLE!
