So I finally bit the bullet and cleaned the DT acrlic for the 1st time since New Years Day. I had to use a steel chisel in some spots. It took 6 hours.
But now I can finally see.... stuff still growing, clownfish spawning, etc.

Chef, thanks for growing out that acropora microclados (stawberry shortcake) for me, but I actually have a large colony. I would like to re-donate that frag to SFVR for raffle next meeting. ill throw in some pocciliopora, the larger colonies have been spawning in my tank again.
The most recent clean FTS can be compared to the FTS on the 1st page, which was taken with LED aquaillumination Sol Blues after 3 months. Before that it grew 2 years under 20k radium MH 250w, and before that approx 20 pieces came from my 75g tank with 14k hamilton MH 250w and PC actinic supplementation for approx 4 years.
the 1year mark is coming up soon on my switch to LEDs. Most of the coral took 3-6months to recover from the switch. growth has been good but not as good as under MH 10k + actinic. Color is also very satisifactory, but not nearly as nice as under 20 radiums. But the LEDs have allowed the average temp to stay below 77 and I think that helps SPS color. Also, the electricity bill hs improved. so overall, im happy with the switch.

Nice size colonies Ray. what are you feeding them Detane, i feed them reef nutrition products MWF and alternating sat-sun. Always after midnight when im home. They get 3capfuls of each: phytoplankton, rotifers, oyster feast. Twice a month they get a few drops of selcon & 2little fishes powdered zooplankton & phytoplankton, or reef chille. My fuge is also growing live phyoto for them as i bubble in co2 from the calcium reactor and have bright lights in there. Also, i feed the fish very heavily. Lots of poop.

Those are nice lOokibg shrimp. Do your wrasses try and eat them? Or do the shrimp live in the fugue tank?

Do your wrasses try and eat them? Or do the shrimp live in the fugue tank? Detane, I fattened up the shrimp in the fuge for 1month, then placed them in the DT about 14 months ago. They control the floor of the tank and dont take kindly to strangers, but have a truce with my large brittle star. since the female harlequin shrimp is over 2 inches long, the wrasses dont mess with them. The wrasses have their own problems. My fat 6-line wrasse gets tired bullying the 4 flame wrasses. The male flame wrasse keeps going for the clown fish eggs, so the clowns are always on guard. And the dominant flame wrasse female gets tired bullying the other females. so much drama...

I agree the flame wrasse harem is awesome. I'm going to sell my clowns and make room for more flame wrasse females. They don't breed in captivity but what if they did. That would be pretty cool.

Thanks Lawrence and Detane.
The key to my overstocked fish population has been to spread the aggression around. everyone gets a little hasseling and so NO one gets a full beat down. feeding 5-10x per day, and lots of variety helps as well. which means lots of filtration and water changes.

tank is on cruise control. I need to change out the 10pound CO2 cartridge as I ran the dKH around 14, Ca2+ 500 and Mag 1350 for over 1 yr.
ogo feeding time, tangs declare a truce
my male harlequin shrimp is a little juggernaut. he flipped that starfish on it edible side like it stole something.
a. solitaryensis tabling out nicely, and at the very bottom of my tank!
wild strawberry shortcake also tabling nicely down low, low.
wild cat's paw stylo is really purple
ORA red planet has encrusted over half the frag rock, and ORA purple stylo grew to the size of 2 fists. I got both as a small frags from Fantastic Frags a while back.
wil a. formosa (slimer) reaching for the skies
3 wild acropora from stag row, fighting for space against 3 montipora (ORA: green cap, purple cap, spongodes). who's going to win?
