Water quality, is one of if not the most important, part of a reef system. And we all know the hassle of lugging around 5gl jugs to the local fish store to get saltwater for water changes, or RO/DI water for evaporation top-off. The problem can be easily fixed by installing an RO/DI system in your home.
My personal favorite is the Vertex Puratek 100, do to it's easy installation, top quality parts, self flushing RO membrane, and easy filter replacement.
• First thing you will need a RO/DI or RO system.
• 1/4" O.D. Tubing (as long as you need to reach the nearest water source)
• Nearby electrical outlet to connect the RO/DI system if it has a pump.
• Patience and a good drill.
Once you have chosen the designated location for you RO/DI system, it's time to prepare the area. Make sure you are able to mount the system onto a solid surface, also make sure to give yourself plenty of space for future repairs or filter replacement accessibility.
(((TURN THE WATER LINE OFF)))
You will need to connect the inlet tube to the outlet pipe of your cold water line (Never use hot water, you will destroy the RO membrane and filters). You can connect it by either using a refrigerator fitting, waterhose bib or faucet bib (hardware stores carry them). Some systems include these fittings and even anself tapping fitting to puncture directly into the cold water line (copper pimping only). I connect mine to the hose bib by my laundry.
Next you want to connect a separate tube to the dirty water outlet side of the RO/DI system. This is where the waste water exits from. You can either direct and connect this end to the drain under your sink or use the waste water to water your garden like I do.
Finally connect a separate tube to the clean water outlet of the RO/DI system and connect the exiting end to a container of your choice. I have my system clean water outlet split (T-Fitting) between an ATO ress, and a Saltwater mixing container, both containers with float valves to prevent flooding.

Once everything is connected and secure. Turn the water line on, connect the power if needed, and let the system run for a couple of minutes to flush out any waste from the packaging stages of the product.
