I'm looking for someplace local to SFV (Woodland Hills) to get some mixing buckets. I'm not sure how safe the ones at Home Depot are for mixing salt water.

I use the cheap trash cans from walmart and haven't had any problems with them yet. I even store my water in trash cans. It cost money to be certified water potable so they don't bother paying for the cert for something that normally is used for trash. But if you insist there are people selling horse trofts on craigslist and those are certified water potable. Just be sure to clean them out real well first!

i use the home depot/lowes/osh 5 gallon buckets for mixing no problem. or, if you buy salt buckets, re-use those to mix.
in addition to those, i also use a 10 gallon tub (like the kind you often see at picnics full of ice and sodas with the nylon rope handles) to mix my saltwater. no problems in the last few years using all of that.

Just a follow up from some other research I did on this. My understanding is that plastics marked as 1, 2, 4, and 5 are food grade plastics with #2 being the prefered. I checked my Home Depot buckets and they are marked as #2. So I'll just keep on using them.
I did hear that the Lowes 5g bucket has gallon marks on it. I'll probably swing by and pick one up just for that aspect.
