Robert has purchased a Hanna Phos Checker and I was wondering if people would like to add this to our reef club tools? We currently have enough club funds to purchase it for the club but I want to make sure that people are interested in using it.
Remember that club reef tools are free to borrow with deposit among full/paid members and non-paid members may borrow it with a deposit and fee (the fee will be specific to each item depending on cost of item).
Any consumable items such as test kits would require all borrowing members to pay for the cost of the consumed part in advance.
Please let us know if you would be interested in using the Hanna Phos checker under these conditions so that we made decide whether to purchase it for the club.

is the phos checker the fancy one or the handheld meter?
i just got the handheld meter (the green ~$50 one) but would like to compare it to the fancy one to see if the readings are close.
so, to answer your question: i'd use it (at least once) if we had it.

I think he got the handheld one. The green one. How do you like your hand held one?

so far so good. there was a pretty extensive discussion on it in a thread on RC going into all the mathematical formulas blah blah blah regarding the +/- deviation relating to the degree of accuracy. i tried to get through it but a lot of it was over my head. but the bottom line was that for general reefing purposes (i.e. not the ultra low nutrient systems, or anything that needed absolute zero phos) it was good enough.
i've only used it once so far and i got a reading of zero phos. i need to use it again to see if i get the same result. i'll probably try it out on my FIL's tank to make sure it's not just my tank.
a word of caution/warning tho- the vials used for the testing have to remain pristine since the tester uses light refraction to calculate results. if hard water spots are left, or the vial is scratched, or there's dust on the outside, it could throw off the readings b/c of the effects on the refraction.
