Why did my chaeto melt away in my FOWLR

I have a tank set up jut for breeding and all that is in there is 3 clownfish, bunch of live rock and chaeto. The chaeto was getting full and then over a few days it melted away. I didn't do anything other then rearranged the rocks and moved the chaeto to a brighter spot.

Does anyone have any extra I can get to replace the dead stuff and why would my chaeto melt?

I'm sure you can some cheato from the members here and get it at the meeting. I never had cheato go away before but I ended up giving it away awhile back.
