i know people on here have done it... but it might help to have some more details about the tank (sump to be) and your goals (i.e. basic 2 chamber, or 3 or 4 chamber, or fuge area, or internal/external pump...etc.). or are you asking about where to get parts? or designs? all of the above? if it's acrylic, you'll probably need some kind of weld-on or similar product b/c silicone i don't think is adequate to bond acrylic to acrylic (the baffles) for very long. but i guess if you don't have a large volume of water, a good silicone joint might be enough to withstand the pressure...

Ok, I have a ~37g clear for life acrylic tank that I'd like to convert into a sump. I don't need anything special. I have a Mag12 that I will use as my return, and I've read that Mag pumps are better used internally.
As far as chambers, a basic 2 chamber with a fuge area is what I'd like.

How thick should the baffles be?

Acrylic thickness shouldnt be a problem just as long as its not super flexible. What matters the most is the height that they need to be so your skimmer runs at optimal level.

My sump blew up because it was it supported properly and end up with 150 gallons on the floor. Since the tank is acrylic make sure that the braces are in place and do not modify it that can cause for it to be weaken. The Baffles add strength too so get a few scrap from Burbank plastic depot the thicker the better .
