Who here is into fishing? Who is into or wants to learn fly fishing? I got some time on my hands this holiday season and I was planning on making some trips to some nearby waters. If anyone is interested in joining me come along! I have extra equipment and if you've never fly fished before I can teach how to cast. I am actually going to try out Balboa Lake for carp on the fly! It's a good place to practice casting since they have a designated fly casting area. And there's a good chance you'll catch some tilapia in the process. I also go to Piru Creek and the West Fork of the San Gabriel. Oh and Jeff here's a video of Piru Creek recently near dusk: They are small but fiesty!

I would like to try out fly fish. I mostly fish saltwater, i.e. kayak, surf, pier and deep sea. I also fish at the local lakes but not as much. Let me know but I probably won't be available til next year.

Haha I thought maybe we sould move the conversation back to this thread since it was getting off topic in the events page. Mike, I have all the equipment for fly fishing. We should plan for some weekend in march. I think Piru might be a good place to go since it isn't too far and I have experience there.

Have you ever fished at Lake Casitas? It's known as the best bass fishing lake in So Cal. My uncle caught a big large mouth last fall and they have good trout fishing too.

Never fished there but my father has a long time ago. I had thought that the bass fishing was not so good there anymore but maybe I heard wrong. Have you fished there? People usually fish by boat with fish finders there right?

We fished from the shore. By the way, when was the last time you fished Piru? I haven't been there for at least 10 years. Are you planning to fish from the shore?
I need to get my yearly license so I can be set.
By the way, are you interested in deep sea fishing? I have extra equipment if you are interested.

Actually I fly fish at Piru Creek which is a tail water of pyramid lake. There are just small fish there but it's fun small stream fly fishing.
I like sea fishing too. I've been on the charter boats a few times. Where do you usually go? I've been out of king harbor and marina del rey.

If you guys wana fly fish why don't you do lower piru creek? Go up the 5 north. Exit templin hwu. Go to the end. And hike 4 miles down stream. Theres german browns and cutthroats down there.or you can go up for beautiful wild rainbows. But upstream I believe its barbless hooks and catch and release. :-)

Sounds good! We went fishing at the Golden Trout Wilderness when we took a trip to hike Mt. Whitney in aug 2011. It's very beautiful and peaceful out there. The lakes around here are nothing close to the beauty up in the high sierras.
